The Louis Berger Adria team has completed the first reporting period of the EU Support to the Regional Waste Management System in the Skopje Region project, presenting progress achieved between March and June 2026 to project stakeholders.
The progress achieved reflects the continued cooperation between the project team, the European Union Delegation, the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning of North Macedonia, local municipalities and project partners
During the first four months, baseline assessments were completed across all 17 municipalities in the Skopje Region, alongside a comprehensive review of the existing strategic, legislative and technical framework. Key deliverables, including the Assessment Report and draft Option Analysis Report, were completed, while field activities such as waste characterisation surveys and the topographic survey of the Drisla landfill provided an important technical basis for the next project phase.
Progress was also made on the Regional Waste Management Plan and Strategic Environmental Assessment, while the Conceptual Design for the Drisla landfill was completed and preliminary technical designs initiated. Work has also begun on strengthening institutional capacities and developing a regional public awareness programme.
These results lay the foundation for the preparation of the Feasibility Study, Cost-Benefit Analysis and Environmental Impact Assessment, supporting the development of a sustainable and integrated waste management system for the Skopje Region.
